Be cautious of common misconceptions about the use of glass bottles

June 12th, 2026

Glass bottles are hard in texture but lack toughness. Moreover, the substances contained inside can cause gas and pressure changes. Incorrect usage can easily lead to safety accidents. Whether it is storing homemade wine, honey, or serving cold and hot beverages on a daily basis, it is necessary to avoid common usage mistakes and operate in a standardized manner to eliminate potential risks.

The most common mistake is to fill the glass bottle too full. Items like homemade wine, honey, and fruit vinegar will have their internal components react under the influence of enzymes and high temperatures, slowly releasing gases and continuously increasing the pressure inside the bottle. If the bottle is filled to the bottle mouth without reserved buffer space, in the high-temperature environment of summer, the bottle body will be compressed by the internal pressure, causing expansion and deformation. In severe cases, it may burst directly, and the bottle stopper may suddenly pop out and hurt people. Therefore, when filling liquids or pastes, it is essential to leave a gap of 2 to 3 centimeters at the bottle mouth.

Secondly, it is necessary to avoid the harm caused by sudden temperature changes from cold to hot. Ordinary glass bottles have limited temperature resistance. Do not immediately put bottles that have just been filled with boiling water or hot soup into the refrigerator. Also, do not directly pour boiling water into cold bottles that have been refrigerated. The intense thermal expansion and contraction can cause hidden cracks on the bottle body and even make it burst instantly. When storing hot food or beverages, wait until the bottle cools down naturally before moving it.

In addition, there are also certain considerations regarding the storage environment. Glass bottles containing fermented ingredients should be placed in a cool and dark place, away from high-temperature areas such as stoves and heaters. Direct sunlight not only accelerates the spoilage of the ingredients but also speeds up the aging of the glass. Regularly check the sealing condition of the bottle caps. If you find that the bottle caps are loose or the rubber rings are aged, replace them in time to prevent steam and liquid leakage from causing the food to spoil. Even a small glass bottle can carry hidden risks if the details are not handled properly. Only by using it in a standardized manner can one feel at ease and worry-free.
